Whatis PreExisting Condition

AtMetLife PetInsurance preexisting conditionwill

A pre-existing condition is any injury, illness, or symptom noticed by you or your veterinarian before your waiting period has ended, even if your pet never went to see the veterinarian for it. Unfortunately, no pet insurance company covers pre-existing conditions.

How do you determine what will be considered pre-existing?

At MetLife Pet Insurance1 identifying a pre-existing condition is simple. If it's an accident or illness and the symptoms weren't present before your enrollment or during the waiting periods, the condition is eligible for coverage with us. However, if the condition or symptom began before your pet insurance plan was effective, it will be considered pre-existing and not eligible for reimbursement.

Curable vs. Incurable pre-existing conditions

MetLife Pet Insurance1 distinguishes between curable and incurable pre-existing conditions, which benefits your pet. Incurable pre-existing conditions typically require lifelong care, and will not be eligible for coverage if your pet is already experiencing symptoms or has been diagnosed prior to the effective date of their pet insurance policy.

Examples of incurable pre-existing conditions:

  • Diabetes
  • Allergies
  • Cancer
  • Heart Disease
  • Arthritis

Examples of curable pre-existing conditions:

  • Ear Infections
  • Upper Respiratory Infections
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • UTIs

Curable pre-existing conditions are issues that can be completely resolved. These type of pre-existing conditions are eligible for coverage once they have been completely resolved and free from symptoms for a period of time.
