At MetLife Pet Insurance, our passion for aiding animal shelters goes beyond mere financial contributions. That’s why in addition to providing donations, we actively collaborate with our shelter partners to help pets find their forever homes. Our dedicated Animal Welfare team works with our partner organizations to figure out how, together, we can do the most good. Here’s what that looks like:

Shelter Partner Program Overview

Monetary Donations 

Our donations reduce operating costs for shelters, so they can find every pet a forever home.

Pet Insurance Safety Nets 

Our shelter partners may offer adopters the option to sign up for MetLife Pet Insurance. This can help pet parents handle unexpected vet bills — a risk of adopting pets with unknown histories. 

Adoption Education

We empower adopters through pet-ownership education initiatives. This is a proactive step toward preventing pet surrenders due to unpreparedness.

Community Investments 

We work with partners to host community adoption events, fundraisers, walks, and even adoption parties for once-overlooked friends.  

MetLife Pet donated more than $1.3 million to animal shelter partners in 20231

We partner with about 500 shelters across the country

We work with shelters of all sizes, including small fosters that don’t have the same resources as the bigger shelters.

Metlife Pet has paid over $10.8 million toward adopter insurance claims from January 2023 through September 2023

Golden Beagle Award

In honor of our pal Snoopy, MetLife Pet recently announced the Golden Beagle Award.  This awards $20,000 to an animal welfare organization creatively tackling the challenge of finding forever homes for large breed dogs
