Why Is Kitten Insurance Worth It?

Cats can live a long time. Enrolling your kitten in pet insurance at a young age can help you manage the costs of their earliest care and prepare for those to come. These benefits highlight why kitten insurance may be worth it:

How Does Kitten Insurance Work?

Surprise vet visits can be stressful — worrying about the cost of care shouldn’t add to that. MetLife Pet makes it easy to submit claims and get reimbursed.2 Here’s a quick look at how our pet insurance works.

Visit the vet

Take your kitten to any licensed vet or emergency clinic in the U.S. when they need care. You don’t have to worry about a network of providers.

Submit your claim

After paying the vet bill, submit a claim with the invoice and records from the visit. We’ll reach out to your vet if we need more details.

Get reimbursed quickly

Claims are typically processed within 5 days.5 Covered costs are then reimbursed through direct payments, like Zelle®6, or paper checks.

FAQs About Pet Insurance for Kittens

Kitten insurance with MetLife Pet starts at $7 per month for one cat, but the premium you pay depends on a few factors — including your cat’s age.1 As your kitten gets older, their risk for experiencing health conditions can increase, even if they’re an indoor cat. Increased rates are one way to offset that risk for insurance providers.

MetLife Pet’s customizable coverage makes it easy to build a plan that works with your budget and your cat needs — from their kitten to senior years. Learn how the cost of pet insurance varies based on certain factors.

Pet insurance doesn’t usually include coverage for routine care because it’s meant to help you manage unexpected costs. However, MetLife Pet’s optional Preventive Care can be added to your kitten insurance plan so you can be reimbursed, up to your selected benefit limit, for many routine vet costs in a kitty’s early life — like vaccinations and spay/neuter procedures.

Kitten insurance plans from MetLife Pet typically don’t cover things like grooming, cosmetic or elective procedures, pre-existing conditions, or breeding.

Anything that your kitten displayed symptoms of, was diagnosed with, or was treated for before they were enrolled in a policy — or during any applicable waiting periods — is usually considered pre-existing. MetLife Pet has a 0-day waiting period for accidents and Preventive Care coverage, and a 14-day waiting period for illnesses.
