Is the Preventive Care Plan Worth It?
To help you decide if pet insurance with Preventive Care is worth it, think about how often your pet needs routine care each year. You could be reimbursed for many of those costs, as long as they're covered under your plan.
Plus, these kinds of routine expenses — like vaccines, parasite prevention, and annual exams — are ways you can help prevent or catch health issues before they become a potential harm to your pet or a high-cost bill.
Enhance a Standard Policy With Proactive Coverage
Our Preventive Care plan can work in tandem with our award-winning5 standard pet insurance policy to help keep your pet healthy and be there when they're sick.
From America's favorite veterinarian, Dr. Hunter Finn:
Prevention and being proactive in your pet's care will allow them to live better-quality lives for longer. Things we used to overlook but have become mainstays in preventive care, such as dental cleanings, are so important. But they can be quite costly, especially if you aren't prepared for these costs when you get a pet.

We offer different levels of coverage to choose from. Get more or less coverage, and higher or lower reimbursement7 limits, depending on what works with your budget and your pet’s needs.
Full range of wellness services

Pet Parents Love Our Preventive Care

It’s been a great decision
We adopted a great Pyrenees and immediately purchased wellness and sickness/hospitalization insurance for him. Later, he became ill. We are so glad we had pet insurance … We will absolutely continue the coverage throughout our pet's life. I have [had] the experience of having a beloved pet without insurance, and he needed each hip replaced and just caught everything — but he was an angel, and it cost us a lot over his life. This is why we immediately insured our GP, and it's been a great decision. We highly recommend MetLife Pet.8

MetLife Pet is my favorite
I currently have five standard poodles with MetLife Pet Insurance and have had my policies for several years. I have been very happy with MetLife Pet and have had all of my claims paid for over the last several years … My wellness claims are reimbursed within a week, usually. I have had several different pet insurance policies over the last 12 years, and MetLife Pet is my favorite, so far.8

Fast claims process, paid quickly
[I’m] very happy with MetLife Pet. They were fast with my claim, and if I had questions, they answered them quickly. I'm very pleased that the only claim I had so far was for wellness visits, and they paid very quickly.8

Preventive Care Plan FAQs
Our Preventive Care plan isn’t an insurance policy, but it can be added to our standard pet insurance plan to help enhance your coverage for routine pet health expenses.
Just like our pet insurance policies, you can be reimbursed at your chosen reimbursement rate7 for covered wellness expenses — subject to your annual deductible and annual limit.9,10 Alternatively, you can choose to be reimbursed according to benefit limits listed in your plan for each wellness expense.
To use your benefits, follow the same process to submit a claim as you would with other vet bills covered under your standard plan. Once we’ve received all of the necessary records and invoices, claims are typically processed within 5 days.
You can receive direct payments — through options like Zelle®10 and PayPal — or a check in the mail for your reimbursements.
Standard pet insurance typically covers unexpected expenses related to diagnostics and treatment when your pet isn’t feeling their best. If your pet breaks a bone, catches a stomach bug, or needs cancer treatment, a standard pet insurance policy may provide coverage. For more information on our pet insurance coverage, download a sample policy.
On the other hand, certain pet expenses are related to keeping your pet healthy — aka routine, wellness, or preventive care. Teeth cleanings, vaccinations, and parasite prevention are some of these types of expenses, and they’re typically covered under our Preventive Care plan.
Since this plan is an optional add-on, it’s an additional cost on top of your insurance premium. You can find out how much your customized coverage could cost by getting a free quote now in just a few minutes!
