Reasons To Consider MetLife Pet Insurance Over Figo

When choosing the best pet insurance provider for you, it’s helpful to figure out which benefits and coverage options are most important according to you and your pet’s needs. Here are some of the ways we may stand out against Figo:

  • Exam fees covered: You’re typically charged an exam fee for the physical examination of your pet by a vet — which is separate from diagnosis or treatment costs. MetLife Pet can cover this fee, while Figo typically doesn’t unless you purchase their optional exam fee coverage plan.1
  • Family plan: Having multiple pets can get expensive. With MetLife Pet, you can save on costs by enrolling up to three pets on a single policy with a shared deductible.4 While Figo offers a multi-policy discount, they don’t offer a family plan, so all of your pets will have separate deductibles.1
  • Short waiting periods: Accidents can happen at any moment — even right after you sign up for a pet insurance policy. MetLife Pet boasts one of the shortest waiting periods among providers, with a 0-day waiting period for accidents.7 Figo offers a 1-day waiting period for accidents.1
  • No minimum age: MetLife Pet Insurance policies cover dogs and cats of all ages. Meanwhile, pets must be at least 8 weeks old to be eligible for a Figo policy.1

Why Choose MetLife Pet Insurance?

Here at MetLife Pet, we offer customizable policies you can tailor to fit your needs — such as flexible reimbursement rates, deductibles, and coverage levels.5,6 But the benefits don’t stop there. Keep reading for some of the reasons MetLife Pet Insurance may be the right fit for you.

MetLife Pet cares

About the community: In addition to providing education for pet parents, so they can confidently take care of their beloved companions, MetLife Pet strives to provide funding to shelters. Plus, we created our Golden Beagle Award, which gives $20,000 to an animal welfare organization searching for homes for large-breed dogs.

If you happen to adopt a dog or cat from one of our partner shelters, you may be able to enroll in a MetLife Pet policy right there! This can help you get the care your pet needs from the beginning.

About our customers: Our policies include supportive care for you and your pet in times of need — such as boarding cost coverage while you’re hospitalized and grief counseling related to the loss of a pet.3 We also offer discounts to eligible customers who work in healthcare, animal care, or the military.10,11 MetLife Pet is the only provider offering a multi-pet policy that allows you to save on costs for multiple pets by putting them on a family plan with a shared deductible.4,9 And if, for whatever reason, you have separate policies for your pets, we still offer a multi-policy discount.12

Discounts

MetLife Pet offers discounts13 in an effort to make pet insurance more accessible. Some of the industry discounts we have are for:

  • Military members: A discount is available to eligible active or retired military members, veterans, and first responders.10
  • Animal care workers: This is a 10% discount on monthly premiums for animal care workers — such as veterinarians, shelter staff, vet technicians, and more.11
  • Healthcare workers: A discount is available to workers in the healthcare industry — like physicians, doctors, nurses, therapists, and more.10

We have additional discounts for pet parents engaged in other industries. These include our:

  • Deductible discount: Your pet's deductible automatically decreases by $50 each policy year you don't receive a reimbursement for a submitted claim.8
  • Internet purchase discount: If you purchase a policy online, you may be eligible for a discount on your first year of premiums.14
  • Employer discount: Those who enroll in a policy through their employer may receive a discount on their premium.15

Free mobile app

Certain mobile applications can help make life easier — especially when they help you organize and keep track of information. MetLife Pet Insurance strives to make managing your pet parenting responsibilities a bit easier with our comprehensive mobile app. Free with your policy, you can use it to manage your pet’s vet records, submit and track claims, access a 24/7 vet chat service,2 and receive artificial intelligence-recommended articles to help you with your pet’s specific needs.

Preventive Care plan

As pet parents ourselves, we understand that your furry family doesn’t just need care when they’re sick. Part of pet care means ensuring they get the routine care they need to stay healthy. This is why we offer an optional Preventive Care plan  to enhance your standard illness and injury insurance policy. We can typically cover things like teeth cleaning, spay or neuter procedures, routine vet visits, vaccinations, and parasite prevention and treatment with this add-on.

Holistic coverage

Just like humans, pets may benefit from a holistic approach to health. That’s why we offer coverage for some holistic and alternative therapies — such as chiropractic care, vet-prescribed diet food, hydrotherapy, and acupuncture — as part of our standard plan. Whether your pet is on the road to recovery or you’re managing a chronic condition, you can explore alternative therapies that help them feel better.

Success stories

Here at MetLife Pet, we have over 15 years of experience serving pet parents. With benefits that go beyond covering vet costs for accidents and illnesses, you may find being part of our family is worth it for you. Here’s a real-life MetLife Pet success story and how these pet parents used their coverage.

Cody, a 9-year-old poodle from Pennsylvania, was playing around with his human siblings when he fractured one of his legs. He was rushed to the vet, and they examined his leg, took X-rays, and had a cast placed on it to help with healing. Between the exam, treatment, and pain medication, the vet bill totaled almost $6,300. With the help of their MetLife Pet policy, Cody’s pet parents were reimbursed over $5,800. After a few weeks of recovery, Cody is back to playing around, and his parents are all the more grateful that they’re prepared with dog insurance for when accidents happen.16
