Scottish Folds are well-known for wanting to get into everything. It’s not uncommon to find them pulling open drawers, dipping their paws into water, or snatching food from their owner’s plate just to satisfy their curiosity. 

To keep them busy, owners of this breed should have plenty of toys on hand which should include various puzzle toys. 

Adaptable

If you have an ever-changing environment, this would be a great breed for you. Scottish Folds tend to go with the flow and are generally accepting of other cats, children, and dogs. Not all cats will be okay with all changes, but this breed will do better than most. 

Affectionate

What Scottish Folds are most known for when it comes to their personality traits is their love their owners. They have a dog-like need to be with them whenever possible so you can’t go far without a companion if you get one. 

This also means they don’t like being left alone, so if you’re going to have to be away from home for long periods of time, you may want to get another cat to keep them company. 

Health Concerns of the Scottish Fold 

On average, Scottish Folds can live for 13 to 15 years. To get the most out of your time with them, you’ll need to take excellent care of them. 

Part of that care is being aware of the two genetic diseases that this breed is prone to: 

• Polycystic kidney disease 
• Cardiomyopathy 

All Scottish Folds have osteochondrodysplasia. This is why they have the folded ears but also causes other cartilage and bone abnormalities throughout the cat’s body. 

In some Scottish Folds, this can lead to arthritis, so be sure to regularly have your veterinarian check for signs of this to ensure your cat is comfortable and healthy.
