The Maltipoo is a hybrid cross between a Maltese and a Poodle. The Maltipoo is affectionate and gentle. They are known to be excellent family and therapy dogs due to their loving personality. The Maltipoo is also extremely active and enjoys life. They appreciate going for a walk and playing games to remain active.

Maltipoos are a good choice for first-time pet parents. Maltipoos are extremely affectionate, cuddly dogs and enjoy pleasing their pet parent. They are able to adapt to any living condition whether an apartment or a home in the country. They are not recommended for those who are away from the home for long periods of time. They develop separation anxiety fairly quickly as they form an extremely close bond with their pet parent.

The Maltipoo is a cross between a Poodle and a Maltese which are both non-shedding, hypoallergenic dog breeds. This makes the Maltipoo a hypoallergenic, non-shedding breed as well.

Health Problems

White Shaker Syndrome - White Shaker Syndrome causes tremors throughout the entire body. White Shaker Syndrome also results in the lack of coordination and is most often experienced when the dog is six months to three years of age.

Epilepsy - Epilepsy causes seizures in Maltipoos but can be managed with medication.

Patellar Luxation - This is a health condition often found in small dogs. This is caused by the femur, patella, and tibia not being aligned properly.

Portosystemic Shunt (PSS) - PSS is the abnormal blood flow between the liver and the body. Symptoms of PSS include lack of appetite, poor balance, incoordination, urinary tract problems and stunted growth.

Legg Calve Perthes Disease - This is a disease that is common in small breed dogs. The condition consists of the degeneration of the femur bone and it results in bone and joint inflammation.
